District Protocols for Face Coverings at Sporting Events

To preserve the enjoyment of sporting events within our District adjustments must be made in light of the global COVID-19 pandemic. On July 3, 2020, Governor Greg Abbott issued Executive Order GA-29, which states:

  • All employees, media, parents, visitors, and students ten years of age or older must wear a face covering over the nose and mouth upon entry to an area where UIL activities are being conducted.

  • Coaches, referees, and chain crews must maintain 6 feet social distance from each other and wear a face covering over the nose and mouth during UIL activities.

  • Players not actively participating in a contest must wear a face covering over the nose and mouth at all times during UIL activities.

Exceptions are provided for any person with a medical condition or disability that prevents wearing a face covering. While waiting for concessions and in the bleachers, household groups are asked to maintain 6 feet social distance from other persons not in their household.

The UIL District Executive Committee has established severe penalties for schools not following these guidelines, which include fines, sanctions, suspension of contests, or discontinuation of public access to games.

To avoid these consequences, we ask for your participation with all State regulations. During these difficult times, our Hawk Spirit must shine more brightly than before. The dedicated student-athletes of Hawkins ISD depend upon your support.

Sincerely,

Stephanie McConnell, Superintendent
